Quirky characters-objects by Gilbert Legrand

The Great Show of Little Things or "Le Grand Show des Petites Choses" is Gilbert Legrand’s exhibition

Gilbert Legrand identifies simple, everyday objects and turns them into humorous characters often referenced from the cartoon world. Legrand’s chosen objects - small tools, kitchen utensils, supermarket products are typical – are photographed as they are, then developed on a computer before their final transformation with paint and brought to life. The artist’s extraordinary imagination has seen a kitchen sieve turn into a French waitress, a clothes brush is actually an Indian chief and an old fashioned water tap is now a man running down the street.
Born in Paris, Legrand has been living and working in Toulouse for the last twenty years. After graduating from the Paris Creative Arts in Visual Art and Design, he spent five years with an agency before becoming an illustrator in the early 80’s in the publishing and advertising industry. Today, Legrand focuses on his sculptures as well as commissioned work with computer graphics.
